Strawberry Pizza

This weekend we visited a neighborhood favorite of ours, Flying Squirrel Pizza Company [1], and one of their specials was this pizza called The Strawberry Alarm: "An experiment that exceeded all expectations! This is soon to be one of our classics. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, Salumi coppa, organic strawberries, Laura Chenel goat cheese, and chopped walnuts. Spicy and sweet and incredible." It is good, and really interesting. The strawberries add a bit of sweetness, like with fig pizzas. It made me wonder if a strawberry and basil pizza would work out too. what I?m up to

Stuff is going on! It's very exciting. I contributed a project to 10 Simple Sunday Afternoon Crafts [1] which is published over on the shiny new Kirtsy, whose redo launched earlier this week. Lookin' good ladies. Huge thanks to Blogstar [2] for inviting me along. I showed how I use woodgrain contact paper [3] to repurpose various tins to use around the house. Yes that is a band-aid on my finger and it got there due to a paper cut unrelated to my project and the various sharp edged metal things I had been wielding for it. Make Grow Gather [4] had me on for an episode of Lazy Summer Radio [5] and I talked about how much I like to find four leaf clovers. (The one pictured above was found in my front yard just last week.) Thanks again Kelly, come back soon! For the next few weeks I'll be participating in a Project Runway [6] challenge thanks to the good people at HP, who sent me a TouchSmart [7] computer! I'll be doing my own version of the challenges the contestants are given, at least in digital format. I'm completely underqualified to do this so the results might be, well, let's just go with interesting. I'll also be keeping an eye on the Project Project Runway [8] girls (Just Crafty Enough [9] and Craftroom [10]) who recreate the challenges on dolls. I loved what they did last season and I'm glad they are doing it again. I have a list of good stuff [11] over at Supermarket [12]. Narrowing it down to 10 items was very difficult, I have about a hundred more bookmarked. Seriously. I'll be speaking at Schoolhouse Craft [13] here in Seattle. I'm doing a panel on blogging with Blair from Wise Craft [14] and Molly from Orangette [15]. We're doing Blogging 101 on Friday, Sept 23rd at 12:30. The conference will be a collection of great people talking about the business of craft. If you need a recharge this will be where to do it, I came away last year feeling more inspired than I had in a while. My husband Scott [16] has a few notable shows coming up. He is 1/2 of Kin to Stars [17], the other half is the very awesome Jerin Falkner [18]. Their very first show is coming up in over a week at Egan's [19] in Ballard (Seattle) on Saturday, August 6th at 9p.m. More details [20] on their Facebook events page. See you there? He also plays with Explone [21] and among their upcoming shows is a benefit to help cover the medical costs of a great girl who needs some help: We Heart Tracy Dart [22] at The Bridge, 7pm on Sunday, August 7th. Design*Sponge book tour in Seattle

Last night Grace was here in Seattle on the Design*Sponge at Home [1] book tour and I was lucky enough to get to attend the crafting class that she's holding as part of book tour. Here is Grace demonstrating stamping our designs into wax. Hi Grace! Know what we did? We wood burned our own wax seals. And then we got to practice stamping them into the hot wax. In retrospect it seems incredibly dangerous. I mean, we were sitting in a store with wood floors that was filled with clothing and hanging paper decorations. Our tables were cluttered with exacto knives, hot pokers, matches and flammable wax. It was incredibly fun. I managed to not accidentally set fire to myself or Melanie [2], whose hands you see here demonstrating how to do some wood burning. I'm very clumsy so reporting I didn't burn Seattle to the ground comes as a great relief as well as a point of pride. If you're headed to one of the book tour events all I can advise is that you get there early, the line for her book signing wound through the store, down the stairs, out the front door and down the block. Congratulations Grace! Also in the store that night was this installation by Matthew Parker [3]. These were all hand folded geometric paper shapes and it was, there is no better way to say this, really cool. His business card says "stay rad" on it. Awesome.
